Battery Storage Rebate Rules

Silicon Valley Power residential customers may receive a rebate for the purchase of a PV-integrated battery storage system.  

Eligibility

  • Must be a Silicon Valley Power residential customer.
  • Must have an existing PV system or install a PV system with the battery storage installation.
  • Must meet City permit requirements and submit copies of final permit and paid invoice with application. Battery storage systems must be purchased and installed after July 1, 2024.
  • Customers may wish to contact Silicon Valley Power to confirm rebate eligibility before signing a contract.
  • Complete rebate application and all required documentation must be submitted online within 60 days from the date of purchase or final permit date.
  • One rebate per Silicon Valley Power service address.
  • Discrepancies can invalidate the rebate application.
  • Silicon Valley Power disclaims any and all liability for any loss or damage which may arise as a result of the applicant’s participation in this program.
  • This program is subject to change or termination without prior notice.
  • Rebate amount cannot exceed the purchase price of the equipment less any other rebates and tax credits, and does not include taxes or shipping costs.

Payment

  • Rebate of $0.15/Wh up to $2,700 on the purchase price of the battery system.
  • Additional rebate up to $2,000 for customers currently enrolled in the Financial Rate Assistance Program with income verification within the past 12 months.
  • Additional rebate up to $2,000 for LIHEAP-eligible customers with income verification within the past 12 months.
  • Limit one rebate per customer.
  • Rebates will be mailed as a check within 4 to 6 weeks after all required documents have been received.

Requirements

  • Approval is at the sole discretion of Silicon Valley Power.
  • Battery storage system must be a minimum size of 3kWh.
  • System must come with a minimum ten-year warranty and should state how battery age will affect performance over time.
  • System must be installed by a licensed contractor.
  • System must be installed in accordance with all applicable building and national electrical codes.
  • System must be connected to the grid.
  • Equipment must be on the California Energy Commission’s approved Energy Storage Systems Equipment List.
  • Customer must execute an Interconnection Agreement for Generating or Storage Facilities through PowerClerk.
  • Review SD 1630, the Initial Review Process for Application to Interconnect Generating Facilities.

Required Documents

  • Photos of installed battery storage and PV system
  • Copy of final permit and Permission to Operate
  • Copy of contract for installation detailing battery system costs and labor separately
  • Copy of the paid invoice showing the itemized cost and size of the installed battery storage system with equipment and labor broken out separately

Note: if a PV system is installed at the time the battery storage system is installed, the PV system costs must be itemized separately.
