Electrical Upgrades Rebates Rules

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for Silicon Valley Power’s (SVP) main service panel upgrade rebate, circuit pauser or splitter rebate, and new circuit prewired for future electric appliances rebate, you must have another SVP home electrification upgrade or EV charging station rebate in progress.
  • This rebate is available only to current SVP residential customers. Landlords may participate if their tenant is an eligible SVP residential customer.
  • Submit the rebate application within 60 days of the building permit issuance date or purchase date.
  • Must be installed and operating in an existing residence receiving electricity from SVP.
  • New construction is not eligible.
  • To qualify for income qualified bonus rebate(s), Silicon Valley Power residential customer must be enrolled in the Financial Rate Assistance Program and/or Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program prior to date of purchase. Income verification must have been provided within the prior 12 months.
  • One (1) rebate per Silicon Valley Power utility service address per measure every ten (10) years.
  • Silicon Valley Power reserves the right to verify both the new appliance sale and installation before a rebate is issued. Approval is at the sole discretion of Silicon Valley Power.

Payment

  • Rebate amounts are up to:
    • $1500 for Main Service Panel Upgrade
    • $500 for (1) New Circuits Prewired for Future Electric Appliances, (up to $2,000 for 4 circuits)
    • $50 for Circuit Pausers or Splitters
  • Income qualified customers may be eligible for bonus rebates:
    • Main Service Panel Upgrade: up to $1,000
    • New circuit prewired: up to $4,000 for 4 circuits
    • Circuit pausers or splitters: up to $100
  • The rebate amount cannot exceed the purchase price of the appliance plus installation and permit fees, excluding taxes, shipping costs, discounts, and additional incentives received by Customer (i.e., other rebates or grants).
  • Only labor performed by a licensed or qualified contractor is eligible for rebate reimbursement, customer labor is excluded.
  • Rebates are valid for purchases made with United States currency only (i.e., no store credit or credit card points).

Requirements

Main Service Panel Upgrade

  • Each dwelling unit is eligible for one electric panel replacement add-on rebate
  • Must upgrade an existing main panel that is less than 200 amps
  • Panel upgrades must be done for the purpose of home electrification measures

New Circuits Prewired for Future Electric Appliances

  • No more than 4 circuits are eligible
  • Circuit is only eligible for a future appliance, which will only include: dryer, cooktop/range, electric vehicle charger, and water heater
  • All circuits must be wired to the source (wire and breaker)
  • Prewiring costs should be itemized by circuit on the contractor invoice
  • Appliance prewiring cannot be paired with that same appliance rebate

Circuit Pausers or Splitters

  • Must demonstrate completed installation of either a Level 2 EV charger or conversion of a natural gas appliance to an eligible efficient electric appliance.

Building Permit Requirements

  • Proof of building permit issuance to receive a rebate
  • All electrical work must be in accordance with local codes, permitting, and inspection requirements. Please call (408) 615-2420 or visit the Permit Center website for more information.

Required Documents

  • Rebate application 
  • Sales receipt must include purchase date, purchase amount, and brand and model number
  • Sales receipt for materials, if applicable, must identify the item used for the installation and include purchase date and purchase amount
  • Sales invoice from contractor, if applicable, must include invoice date, contractor’s license number, name and address of contractor, and price paid for installation
  • Proof of building permit issuance
