Today, Silicon Valley Power proudly celebrates 130 years of powering Santa Clara.
Since our founding on July 23, 1896, SVP has grown from providing electricity to just 46 streetlights into one of California's most reliable public power utilities, serving more than 57,000 residential and business customers.
For 130 years, we've been committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable electric service while supporting the growth of our community. From helping establish the Northern California Power Agency to investing in renewable energy, local generation, grid modernization, battery energy storage, and new transmission infrastructure, SVP has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of Santa Clara.
Today, our service area powers neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, small businesses, and many of the world's most innovative companies. As our community continues to grow, we're investing in the infrastructure needed to ensure a resilient and reliable electric system for generations to come.
This milestone is also a celebration of the people behind the power. For more than a century, generations of dedicated employees have worked around the clock to keep the lights on and provide exceptional service to our customers. Their commitment has helped shape SVP into the trusted public utility it is today.
While we're proud of our history, we're equally excited about the future. Guided by the principles of public power and a spirit of innovation, Silicon Valley Power will continue delivering the reliable energy that powers opportunity throughout Santa Clara.
Thank you to our employees, customers, and community for being part of our 130-year journey. Here's to the next chapter of powering Santa Clara.
