As a public power entity, mutual aid is a core belief for Silicon Valley Power (SVP). When another utility suffers an infrastructure emergency or widespread outage, SVP is prepared to help restore power to the community. SVP recently received a Mutual Aid Commendation from the American Public Power Association for the electric restoration efforts provided to the
City of Redding Electric Utility during the 2018 Carr Fire. This national commendation is an honored distinction for SVP that reflects the organization’s continued support of its fellow public power utilities.
The Carr Fire is the
eighth most destructive wildfire in California history. SVP sent ten of its field crew members to Redding, California, as the fire was still burning, to help rebuild the damaged electrical system. Crews worked 16 hour days in an effort to get the power up and running as quickly as safely possible. View photos of the mutual aid efforts on the
utility's blog.
