$2000 Technical School Grant

A financial boost is available for incoming and current university and technical school studentsentering a field related to energy services, public power, and/or the power industry. Silicon Valley Power will award up to three College Scholarships of $5,000 each and up to five Technical School Grants of $2,000 each to Santa Clara residents, or students attending school in Santa Clara, enrolled to begin school no later than October 1, 2019.

Apply by Monday, December 17, 2018 to determine if you qualify for a scholarship or grant. Scholarship and grant recipients will be notified by May 2019.

$5000 College Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a resident of the City of Santa Clara, or attending school in the City of Santa Clara and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Possess a high school diploma or be a high school senior
  • Be enrolled in a community college, college, or technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education by the time the scholarship is awarded or no later than October 1, 2019
  • Submit an application with cover letter
  • Meet the application requirements (school transcripts, three letters of recommendations, answers to four essay questions, and an interview)
  • Demonstrate the goal of entering a field related to energy services, public power, or the power industry, including a four year degree in a discipline related to public power and/or energy industry (i.e. engineering, technology, science, mathematics, economics, finance, environmental science, political science, or business administration)

Evaluation Process

Applications will be reviewed by an Evaluation Committee composed of representatives from the local educational and business community. GPA may be used in the evaluation. Evaluation Committee representatives are not related to City of Santa Clara officials or employees.

Application Deadline

Completed application packets must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018. Postmarks and faxes will not be accepted. Application packets can be mailed or brought to:
