What to Expect at Your In-Home Energy Audit

What is an energy audit?
An energy audit consists of an in-home consultation with an Energy Specialist designed to help you understand the electric consumption of your home. A qualified specialist will examine your home and help you find ways to reduce energy consumption, improve comfort, and lower energy bills.

What happens at the energy audit?
An Energy Specialist will start by providing you with your electrical usage for the prior twenty-four months. We have found that reviewing usage helps our customers understand their consumption. The Specialist will also inquire about the outcome you were hoping to accomplish during the energy audit. This will help ensure our Specialist answers your specific questions and concerns. We will walk around the inside and outside of your home taking inventory of the different systems in your home (plumbing, heating/cooling, water storage, building envelope, appliances, lighting, etc) while answering any questions you might have.

How long will the energy audit last?
A typical consultation will last anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. This should allow adequate time for the Energy Specialist to discuss your usage with you and examine your home for energy saving opportunities. We require that an adult be home during the entire consultation.

What do I need to do to prepare for my energy audit?
During the audit, the Energy Specialist may require access to all the rooms in your home, garage, attic and yard. If a ladder is required to access your attic, please advise the SVP representative when scheduling your appointment so we can ensure we have adequate equipment. If you have a concern regarding an SVP employee entering the rooms of your home, please discuss those concerns with the SVP representative when scheduling your appointment.

What will be the outcome of the energy audit?
After the consultation, the Energy Specialist will send you a follow-up report that will summarize the existing conditions in your home, identify potential energy saving measures, and provide direction towards additional resources and energy saving remediation.

Will we be discussing gas usage at the energy audit?
While we do not have access to your gas usage, throughout the energy audit, the Energy Specialist will be discussing and providing recommendations that can help lower your gas consumption as well.
