Silicon Valley Power Ranked Fourth in U.S. by Solar Survey;
Seeks to Double Solar Installations in Next Twelve Months

June 17, 2010

Silicon Valley Power has been ranked fourth in the U.S. for new solar electric installations by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), based on the average number of solar watts per customer installed in 2009. SVP installed just under 1.2 megawatts of solar last year for an average of 22.3 watts per customer, moving up to 4th in the ranking from 25th in 2008.

SVP expects customers to add more than 2 megawatts of solar-generated energy in the next twelve months and at least double its solar installation portfolio, according to Larry Owens, SVP Manager of Customer Services.

SVP Division Manager of Customer Service/Marketing, Larry Owens“ The City of Santa Clara and SVP customers continue to embrace clean solar power as a way to lower costs and reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources,” Owens said. “The amount of solar power generated in Santa Clara is remarkable for a city of our size.”

SEPA said the results of this year's survey suggest that the growth in solar power last year was sparked in part by a drop in price for photovoltaic modules and systems worldwide.
