Donald Von Raesfeld Power Plant
The new 147-megawatt (MW) power plant utilizes two combustion gas turbines with heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine state-of-the-art, clean and efficient combined-cycle generation technology. DVR will directly satisfy about one-third of the City of Santa Clara's power needs and contribute to Silicon Valley Powers diverse power generation portfolio of both renewable and non-renewable sources.

Location
The DVR Power Plant is located at 850 Duane Avenue on approximately two acres in an industrial area of Santa Clara. Its proximity to SVP's existing Kifer Receiving Station allows for easy and efficient interconnection to the local transmission system. DVR is also located next to the City of Santa Clara's recycled water line, allowing the power plant to use the lines recycled water for cooling.
Cost
Approximately $175 million
Purpose
Primarily, DVR's output replaces power previously obtained through a now-expired, long-term power contract, and cost-effectively serves the growing electricity needs of residents and businesses in the City of Santa Clara.
As a local generation resource, DVR boosts the reliability of the entire region by providing voltage support, and is a prime example of how local generation reduces the need for imports into the area over congested power lines. The high-efficiency and flexibility of a combined-cycle power plant enhances the diversity of SVP's mostly renewable energy portfolio and provides an additional hedge against volatile wholesale market prices, costly transmission congestion charges and reserve requirements.
