SANTA CLARA, Calif. – May 22, 2017 – Several innovative programs and an emphasis on community outreach in the City of Santa Clara have earned Silicon Valley Power (SVP) the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA) 2017 award for superior community leadership among utilities in the region. The Paul J. Raver Award was presented to the City’s municipal electric utility on May 11, 2017 at the NWPPA Annual Meeting in Sunriver, OR.
Examples cited in the NWPPA Award to Santa Clara’s municipal electric utility include:
Free energy audits and installation of energy efficiency measures such as modern lighting fixtures for small business and low-income residential customers
A Neighborhood Solar Program that uses voluntary $5-a-month customer donations to pay for money-saving solar electric systems on non-profit facilities
The 13-year-old Santa Clara Green Power program that gives all customers the option to use 100 percent renewable power at the lowest average renewable rates in the state
Free citywide outdoor Wi-Fi provided by the SVP MeterConnect® network
A tool-lending library, administered through the City’s public library, allowing customers to check out efficiency tools such as Kill-A-Watt meters, thermal leak detectors and thermal cameras.
“We want to be visible and accessible to our customers,” said Mary Medeiros McEnroe, SVP Public Benefits Manager. “Residents meet us when we give energy efficiency tips at schools and businesses, judge science fairs and sponsor annual events in the City. We are proud to be so deeply engaged with the Santa Clara community, and honored to be recognized by the NWPPA for our contributions.”
NWPPA (NWPPA.org) noted that SVP also introduced the largest electric vehicle charging center in the region last year, with 49 chargers at the Tasman parking structure near California’s Great America, the Santa Clara Convention Center and Levi’s Stadium.
