National Awards Honor Leading Green Power Suppliers

EPA Green Power AwardSanta Clara, CA, October 20, 2015 – Silicon Valley Power is excited to announce that it has received a 2015 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA’s annual Green Power Leadership Awards recognize the country’s leading green power suppliers for their commitment and contribution to helping advance the nation’s voluntary green power market. EPA presented Silicon Valley Power with the Green Power Supplier of the Year award at the 2015 Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Arlington, Virginia on October 19, 2015.

“EPA is pleased to recognize Silicon Valley Power with a Green Power Supplier of the Year Award for its leadership in expanding the nation’s renewable energy industry,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “Through its development of new renewable energy capacity, Silicon Valley Power is helping to address climate change and put our country on a path to a future powered by renewable resources.”

Silicon Valley Power was one of only three green power suppliers nationwide to receive a Green Power Supplier of the Year Award. The award recognizes leading green power providers for outstanding efforts, initiatives, and programs that promote the use of green power within homes and businesses and advance the development of green power sources.

“We are proud to receive this prestigious award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,” said Jamie Mathews, Mayor of Santa Clara. “We’ve seen over a decade of overwhelming support for this program from the Santa Clara community – thousands of businesses and residents are taking an active roles in creating a more sustainable community. Our customers recognize that advancing clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice in addressing climate change.”

Eleven years ago, Silicon Valley Power envisioned a program that would promote clean energy, steward the environment, educate the community and, above all, provide customers with a choice. Today, Santa Clara Green Power continues to meet and exceed those expectations.

At its core, the Santa Clara Green Power program empowers residents and businesses to match their electricity usage with power from renewable sources – reducing their electricity carbon footprint while supporting the development of local and regional renewable resources.

Today’s program is so much more – it’s a direct reflection of local consumer desires and interests. In 2014, to match increasing community support for solar energy, Santa Clara Green Power switched its product mix to include 85 percent solar power from California and 15 percent wind power from the western United States. Solar power was procured from projects at 60 different schools, including parking lot canopies and shade structures.
