SANTA CLARA, CA – Silicon Valley Power’s renewable energy option, Santa Clara Green Power,is celebrating its 15th year anniversary. Santa Clara Green Power has successfully provided Santa Clarans an affordable way to support solar and wind energy in California and Western states.
Since 2004, over 4,000 Santa Clara residents and businesses have participated in Santa Clara Green Power, allowing the program to support hundreds of unique solar projects, including over 50 California schools.
“Silicon Valley Power customers have always shown a desire for a renewable energy option,” said Manuel Pineda, interim chief electric utility officer. “We are fortunate that we can provide Santa Clara Green Power to meet our customers’ needs while supporting our goal to drive global change.”
Santa Clara Green Power was launched to provide Silicon Valley Power customers a voluntary option to support renewable energy before California’s mandate for utility-offered renewables was passed. Since then, Santa Clara Green Power has made a big impact.
Participants of Santa Clara Green Power have helped land the green power program on several National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Top Ten Utility Green Pricing Programs lists 22 times over the last 15 years.
Santa Clara Green Power is an eight-time winner of the EPA Green Power Supplier of the year award.
Santa Clara Green Power transitioned to a 100% solar energy mix for residents and small businesses in 2018 in response to a 2017 participant survey that called for more solar energy in the green power mix.
