SILICON VALLEY POWER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Applications for College Scholarship and Technical Grant Programs Due Dec. 15, 2017
Santa Clara, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2017) – Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara’s municipal electric utility, announced today that it will begin accepting applications tomorrow for its Scholarship Awards Program for the 2018-2019 school year.
Each year, SVP awards up to three college scholarships of $5,000 and up to five technical school grants of $2,000 to new and continuing college students who are pursuing careers related to the power industry. Students must live or go to school in Santa Clara to be eligible. Applications are due by Dec. 15, 2017.
Students interested in applying for SVP scholarships and grants must meet a series of requirements:
- Demonstrate a goal of entering a field related to energy services, public power, or the power industry
- Be a resident of the City of Santa Clara, or a student in the City of Santa Clara
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Possess a high school diploma or be a high school senior enrolled in a community college, college, or technical school to begin no later than Oct. 1, 2018
- Submit an application with cover letter
- Meet the application requirements
Applications will be reviewed by an independent, third-party Evaluation Committee composed of representatives from the local educational and business community. Evaluation Committee representatives are not related to City of Santa Clara officials or employees.

This year marks the twelfth year of SVP scholarship awards for outstanding students. Since 2006, thirty-six college scholarships and six technical school grants totaling $192,000 have been awarded by the SVP Scholarship Awards Programs.
